A Community Quilt Project & Art Workshop by Ampersand
Saturday, April 24th, 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm
Quilts are the perfect piece of Bluegrass culture and a very on the nose metaphor for our SAAPM community art workshop.
Each April during Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month our coalition leaders at Kentucky Associate of Sexual Assault Programs hang quilts representing each rape crisis center at the capitol. 15 rape crisis centers across the state ensure every county in Kentucky has access to rape crisis services. Ampersand’s quilt is… dusty and still has our old name and logo and while we love to drape it over our couches and keep it close it is time for a new message from our community to hang each year – and we want you to help us build it.
We want crafty and creative community members to claim a piece of the quilt for themselves, decorate it, and mail it back to us. We will be having a virtual workshop to decorate the pieces together so it will be perfect if you are more creative in a collaborative space or just need some Netflix recs.
Register here by April 12th at 5pm and Ampersand will send you all of the supplies you will need, instructions to help you out, a return envelope to get the quilt square back to us, and some fun swag to keep!
