Fight back against rape culture by joining us for Ampersand’s Summer Book Club!

Ampersand is excited to announce our summer book club! We will be reading Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu, a YA book about teens who fight back against sexism and sexual violence. The club will meet on Mondays from 3pm-4:30pm starting July 12th through August 16th and be facilitated by Ampersand Advocates. We will end the series at our Lexington office on Saturday, August 16th to screen the Netflix adaptation of Moxie and eat pizza!

This book club is open to teens 13 and up in our 17 county service area* and is completely free. We will send you a copy of the book, a notebook, and instructions before our first meeting! All meetings are optional, including the screening, but we hope you will come to all that you can.

If you have any questions, feel free to email the facilitators:

Cassidy Wheeler (cwheeler@ampersandky.org)

Ariel Norvell (anorvell@ampersandky.org).

A note about content:

This book deals with real life examples of sexism, sexual violence, harassment, and other potentially distressing themes. It may be difficult to read some parts, and that is okay. You don’t have to read everything and should only read what you feel comfortable with. We will discuss and debrief during our meetings, but everyone is encouraged to attend and participate even if you did not read some sections.
