Community Gardening Workshops
Ampersand is excited to sponsor a new community garden located at Total Grace Baptist Church through Victory Gardens Lex.
We will be hosting a series of community gardening workshops facilitated by Sarah Williams from Victory Gardens Lex. The first workshop will be held virtually through Zoom and will focus on the work that goes into getting your community garden started. After the first session we will meet every other Tuesday. All are welcome to join one or all of the workshops! We hope to move future workshops outdoors to the garden site as the weather continues to warm and improve.
Victory Gardens Lex is a people powered, grassroots movement to grow community gardens in Lexington and the region. Change begins at the most local of levels and the revolution of love must begin with how we care for and tend to the land, our communities, our spirits, and our bodies. In addition to the community garden at Total Grace Baptist Church they are also cultivating gardens on North Limestone, the historic Phyllis Wheatley Center on Chestnut, and community members backyards.
Your facilitator is Sarah Williams – Mama Doula, Revolutionary, change agent, bridge builder, community advocate, and a native of Lexington, KY. She works tirelessly planting seeds and nurturing the growth of liberation of all life. With experience as a registered nurse traveling across the country and a community advocate for mitigating gentrification and demanding police accountability, Sarah Williams seeks to educate and build community through facilitating community civic engagement that produces The People’s Blueprint for dismantling systemic racism in our community.
