Community Engagement
Sexual violence affects everyone, yet not everyone is involved in the movement against it. At Ampersand, we’re trying to change that. Our aim is to not only engage all communities throughout our service area but to also support individuals when necessary. It is our job to make sure people know our doors are open and accessible to them.
Through our Community Engagement Program, we run our Volunteer Program and our Prevention Education Program. Our volunteers help to staff our 24-hr support line, provide medical and legal advocacy for survivors of sexual violence, and represent Ampersand throughout the community. Through our Prevention Education Program, we work with high schools and middle schools within our service area to implement Green Dot and Shifting Boundaries, programs designed to teach students about healthy boundary setting and to empower them to become active bystanders amongst their peers. If you are interested in learning more about our Volunteer Program or how Ampersand can come to your school, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator or our Prevention Coordinator respectively.
The Community Engagement Program also seeks intentional collaboration with populations that have historically been at high risk or underserved throughout the movement to secure freedom from sexual violence. This includes our rural populations, communities of color, immigrant and refugee populations, LGBTQ+ folx, people with disabilities, men, and so many more. For more information about these efforts or ways to get involved, please contact our Director of Community Engagement.
